It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, eighty (80) armed men from among the people of Makkah advanced towards the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his noble companions from the direction of the mountain of Tan‘eem. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) invoked a curse upon them, so they were captured. Upon this, the following verse was revealed: { وَہُوَالَّذِیکَفَّأَیْدِیَہُمْعَنْکُمْوَأَیْدِیَکُمْعَنْہُمْبِبَطْنِمَکَّۃَمِنْبَعْدِأَنْأَظْفَرَکُمْعَلَیْہِمْ} … He it is Who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them in the midst of Makkah after He had given you victory over them.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … When the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the noble Companions were at Hudaybiyyah, the disbelievers sent eighty men, armed with weapons, with the intention that if they found an opportunity, they would deceitfully take action against the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the Companions. Accordingly, this armed group came to Hudaybiyyah from the direction of Mount Tan‘eem, but the Muslims became aware of them and, showing courage, captured all of these men and presented them before the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Their crime was indeed severe, and whatever punishment was given to them would have been justified. However, the danger in this was that war would then become inevitable, whereas the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, at that time, desired reconciliation instead of war, because therein lay the benefit of the Muslims. Thus, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam forgave all of them and set them free.
