Hadith 8751

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I never saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laughing openly such that I could see the uvula in his throat; he would only smile gently. And when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw clouds or wind, its effects would become apparent on his face (i.e., he would become worried). I said: O Messenger of Allah! People become happy when they see clouds or wind because they hope for rain to come, but on the contrary, I see that signs of concern appear on your face? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Aisha! I am not secure from the possibility that there may be punishment in it, while a people (i.e., the people of ‘Ad) were destroyed by wind, and that people were looking at the punishment, but (seeing the apparent clouds) they were saying: This is a cloud that will bring us rain.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Allah Ta’ala, mentioning the people of Hud (alayhis salam), the ‘Aad, says: {فَلَمَّا رَاَوْہُ عَارِضًا مُّسْتَقْبِلَ اَوْدِیَــتِہِمْ قَالُوْا ھٰذَا عَارِضٌ مُّمْطِرُنَا بَلْ ہُوَ مَا اسْـتَعْــجَلْتُمْ بِہٖرِیْحٌ فِیْہَا عَذَابٌ اَلِیْمٌ۔ تُدَمِّرُ کُلَّ شَیْء ٍ بِاَمْرِ رَبِّہَا فَاَصْبَحُوْا لَا یُرٰٓی اِلَّا مَسٰکِنُہُمْ کَذٰلِکَ نَجْزِی الْقَوْمَ الْمُجْرِمِیْنَ۔}

So when they saw it as a cloud advancing towards their valleys, they said, “This is a cloud that will bring us rain.” Rather, it is that (punishment) which you sought to hasten—a wind wherein is a painful punishment. It will destroy everything by the command of its Lord. Thus they became such that nothing could be seen except their dwellings. Thus do We recompense the criminal people.
