It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, he says: There is a verse of the Holy Qur’an, I know it, but no one has ever asked me about it. Now I do not know whether people know about it, so they do not ask, or they have not understood it enough to ask about it. Then he continued talking to us about other things, and when he stood up and left, we began to blame each other that we did not ask him about that verse. I (Abu Yahya) said: When he comes tomorrow, I will ask him. So when he came the next day, I said: O Ibn Abbas! Yesterday you mentioned a verse about which no one has asked you; now, is it that people have come to know about it, so they do not ask, or have they not understood it? He said: Yes, I will tell you. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to the Quraysh: O assembly of Quraysh! There is no good in anyone who is worshipped besides Allah Almighty. Now the Quraysh knew that the Christians worshipped Isa ibn Maryam, peace be upon him, and they also knew what the Christians said about Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, that is, they denied his prophethood. So the people of Quraysh said: O Muhammad! Do you not claim that Sayyiduna Isa, peace be upon him, was a prophet and a righteous servant of Allah Almighty? Then, if you are truthful in this matter, their deity is just as you say (so there is no good left in Isa, peace be upon him)? So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: {وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ابْنُ مَرْیَمَ مَثَلًا إِذَا قَوْمُکَ مِنْہُ یَصِدُّونَ} … When the son of Mary is cited as an example, your people turn away from it. The narrator said: What does "yasiddoon" mean? He said: Making noise, while Allah Almighty says: {وَإِنَّہُ لَعِلْمٌ لِلسَّاعَۃِ} although the coming of Isa, peace be upon him, is one of the signs before the Day of Judgment.
