Hadith 8738

It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed: {ثُمَّ إِنَّکُمْ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَۃِ عِنْدَ رَبِّکُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ} … (Then on the Day of Resurrection you will dispute before your Lord.) I (Zubair, may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Will these disputes that occur between us in this world also happen in the Hereafter? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes. And when this verse was revealed: {ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَ لُنَّ یَوْمَئِذٍ عَنْ النَّعِیمِ} … Then on that Day you will surely be questioned about the blessings. I (Zubair, may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! About which blessings will we be questioned? We only have these two black things, one is dates and the other is water. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Beware! Soon you will be questioned about this.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … There is a difference between reckoning in this world and in the Hereafter. If the oppressed person, of his own accord, completely forgives the oppressor in this world, then that is acceptable; otherwise, settlement will take place in the Plain of Gathering (Mahshar). A blessing is a blessing in any case; every human being, in one way or another, benefits from various blessings of Allah Ta‘ala. If gratitude for them is shown in this world, then that is acceptable; otherwise, there will be questioning in the Hereafter.
