It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When our Lord, whose name is most blessed, decides upon a matter, the angels who bear the Throne glorify Him, then the angels who are near them in that heaven begin to glorify Him, until this chain of glorification reaches the lowest heaven. Then the angels near the bearers of the Throne ask them: What has your Lord said? So they inform them, then those in one heaven inform those in the lower heaven, until the matter reaches the lowest heaven. From there, the jinn snatch the word and listen to it, then flaming fire is hurled at them, and if they escape, they mix what they have heard with lies. The narrator, Abdur Razzaq, said: The jinn snatch the word and flaming fire is thrown at them.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In this hadith, the explanation of the following verse is given: {وَلَا تَنْفَعُ الشَّفَاعَۃُ عِنْدَہٓ اِلَّا لِمَنْ اَذِنَ لَہ حَتّیٰٓ اِذَا فُزِّعَ عَنْ قُلُوْبِہِمْ قَالُوْا مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّکُمْ قَالُوا الْحَقَّ وَہُوَ الْعَلِیُّ الْکَبِیْرُ۔} (Surah Saba: 23) "And intercession does not benefit with Him except for whom He permits. Until, when fear is removed from their hearts, they say, 'What has your Lord said?' They say, 'The truth.' And He is the Most High, the Most Great."
In the narration of Sahih Bukhari, the following detail is mentioned regarding this verse: It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
((When Allah decrees a matter in the heaven, the angels beat their wings in submission to His command, as if it were a chain striking a smooth stone. Ali (rahimahullah) and others said: This sound passes through them. When fear is removed from their hearts, they say (to one another): 'What did your Lord say?' They reply to the one who asked: 'He said the truth, and He is the Most High, the Most Great.' Then the eavesdroppers (from among the devils) hear it, and the eavesdroppers are like this, one above the other." Sufyan (rahimahullah) described it with his hand, spreading the fingers of his right hand and stacking them one above another. "Sometimes a flaming fire (meteor) strikes the listener before he can pass it to his companion, and sometimes he passes it on before the flame reaches him, and so it reaches the earth. Sometimes Sufyan (rahimahullah) said: 'Until it reaches the earth, and it is cast upon the mouth of the soothsayer (kahin), who then mixes with it a hundred lies. People then believe him and say: Did he not tell us on such and such a day that such and such would happen, and we found it true?' This is for the word that was heard from the heaven."))
When Allah Almighty gives a command to the angels in the heavens, they begin to beat their wings in humility and listen attentively, and a sound like the clinking of a chain on a smooth stone is produced. When the angels recover from the fear of the divine command, they ask one another: "What command did Allah Almighty give?" The others reply: "Whatever He said is the truth, and Allah Almighty is Most High, Most Great." The devils steal these words, and these devils are stacked one above the other. Imam Sufyan (rahimahullah) described their state by gesturing with his fingers, spreading the fingers of his right hand and stacking them one above another. Sometimes, as soon as the angels become aware, they throw a flame of fire, and that flame burns the listener before he can convey it to his companion. Sometimes, before the flame reaches him, he manages to convey it to his companion, and in this way, these words reach the earth. Then these words are cast upon the mouth of the astrologer (soothsayer), and he mixes a hundred lies with that one truth and narrates them to the people. Sometimes, one of his statements turns out to be true, so people say: "Look, this astrologer told us such and such, and it turned out to be true." Whereas this is the very word that was stolen from the heavens.
