Hadith 8691

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Which sin is the greatest?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “That you associate a partner with Allah, while He created you.” The man asked: “After that, which sin is greater?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “That you kill your child out of fear that he will eat with you.” The man then asked: “After that, which sin is greater?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “That you commit adultery with your neighbor’s wife.” Thus, Allah Almighty revealed confirmation of these matters in His Book and said: {وَالَّذِیْنَ لَا یَدْعُوْنَ مَعَ اللّٰہِ اِلٰہًا اٰخَرَ وَلَا یَقْتُلُوْنَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِیْ حَرَّمَ اللّٰہُ اِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا یَزْنُوْنَ وَمَنْ یَّفْعَلْ ذٰلِکَ یَلْقَ اَثَامًا۔} (Surah Al-Furqan: 68) “And those who do not invoke any other god along with Allah, nor kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, nor commit adultery. And whoever does this shall meet a severe punishment.”
