حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ أَبِي قُرَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ أَنَسٍ يَقُولُ {نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَاتٍ مَنْ نَشَاءُ} [الأنعام: 83] قَالَ بِالْعِلْمِ قُلْتُ مَنْ حَدَّثَكَ قَالَ زَعَمَ ذَاكَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ
Imam Malik bin Anas, may Allah have mercy on him, said: {نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَاتٍ مَّنْ نَّشَائُ} that is, through knowledge. I asked a narrator: Who narrated this hadith to you? He said: Zaid bin Aslam assumes this.

Benefits: … The complete verse is: {وَتِلْکَ حُجَّتُنَآ اٰتَیْنٰہَآ اِبْرٰہِیْمَ عَلٰی قَوْمِہٖنَرْفَعُدَرَجٰتٍمَّنْنَّشَائُاِنَّرَبَّکَحَکِیْمٌ عَلِیْمٌ} … And this is Our proof which We gave to Ibrahim against his people; We raise in degrees whom We will. Indeed, your Lord is All-Wise, All-Knowing.
That is, such a proof and argument for the oneness of Allah (tawhid al-ilahi), for which Ibrahim (alayhis salam)'s people could not produce any answer.
