بَابُ:« وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ ۔۔۔»Chapter: "And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night..."

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَخَذْتُ امْرَأَةً فِي الْبُسْتَانِ فَفَعَلْتُ بِهَا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ غَيْرَ أَنِّي لَمْ أُجَامِعْهَا قَبَّلْتُهَا وَلَزِمْتُهَا وَلَمْ أَفْعَلْ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ فَافْعَلْ بِي مَا شِئْتَ فَلَمْ يَقُلْ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا فَذَهَبَ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ لَقَدْ سَتَرَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ لَوْ سَتَرَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قَالَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَصَرَهُ فَقَالَ رُدُّوهُ عَلَيَّ فَرَدُّوهُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِ {وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ} [هود: 114] إِلَى {لِلذَّاكِرِينَ} [هود: 114] فَقَالَ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَلَهُ وَحْدَهُ أَمْ لِلنَّاسِ كَافَّةً يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ بَلْ لِلنَّاسِ كَافَّةً
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I caught hold of a woman in a garden and did everything with her except for adultery; I kissed her and embraced her, but did nothing beyond that. Now I am present before you, so impose upon me whatever punishment you wish. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say anything to him, and the man left. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said about him: Allah had concealed this for him, if only he had concealed it himself. Meanwhile, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept looking after the departing man, and finally the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Call him back. So when he was brought back, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse to him: {وَاَقِمِ الصَّلٰوۃَ طَرَفَیِ النَّہَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِّنَ الَّیْلِ اِنَّ الْحَسَنٰتِ یُذْہِبْنَ السَّـیِّاٰتِ ذٰلِکَ ذِکْرٰی لِلذّٰکِرِیْنَ۔} … And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at some hours of the night. Indeed, good deeds remove bad deeds. That is a reminder for those who remember. Sayyiduna Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Is this only for him or for all people? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is for all people.
((وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) نَحْوُهُ) وَفِيهِ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ذَلِكَ ذِكْرَى لِلذَّاكِرِينَ} [هود: 114] قَالَ فَدَعَاهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلَهُ خَاصَّةً أَمْ لِلنَّاسِ كَافَّةً فَقَالَ بَلْ لِلنَّاسِ كَافَّةً
. (Second chain) The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, remained silent, then this verse was revealed: {وَاَقِمِ الصَّلٰوۃَ طَرَفَیِ النَّہَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِّنَ الَّیْلِ اِنَّ الْحَسَنٰتِ یُذْہِبْنَ السَّـیِّاٰتِ ذٰلِکَ ذِکْرٰی لِلذّٰکِرِیْنَ۔} … And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and in some hours of the night. Indeed, good deeds remove bad deeds. That is a reminder for those who remember. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, called him and recited this verse to him. Sayyiduna Umar said: O Messenger of Allah! Is this specific to him or for all people? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: It is general for all people.
