Hadith 860

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Angels do not enter a house in which there is a person in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), an image, or a dog.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … By "dog" is meant a dog that is not kept for guarding or hunting. Nowadays, most villagers keep dogs for fighting, and most city dwellers keep dogs merely to fulfill their own desire, whereas this habit is extremely blameworthy. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "Whoever keeps a dog that is not a dog for herding livestock or for hunting, every day two qirats of his reward are diminished." (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim) The ahadith regarding the reward for funeral prayers clarify that a qirat is equal to (the size of) Mount Uhud.
