عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ خَطَّ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطًّا ثُمَّ قَالَ هَذَا سَبِيلُ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ خَطَّ خُطُوطًا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَذِهِ سُبُلٌ قَالَ يَزِيدُ مُتَفَرِّقَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ سَبِيلٍ مِنْهَا شَيْطَانٌ يَدْعُو إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ وَأَنَّ هَذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ [سورة الأنعام: ١٥٣]
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drew a line for us and said: This is the path of Allah Almighty. Then he drew several lines to its right and left and said: These are separate paths, upon each of which is a devil calling towards it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: {واَنَّ ہٰذَا صِرَاطِی مُسْتَقِیمًا فَاتَّبِعُوْہُ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِکُمْ عَنْ سَبِیلِہِ} … And that, indeed, this is My straight path, so follow it, and do not follow other paths, for they will separate you from His path.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … While avoiding discord and sectarianism, one should strive to adopt the life example (seerah) of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam; this alone is the straight path (sirat al-mustaqim).
