It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that a group of the Quraysh passed by the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while Sayyiduna Khabbab, Sayyiduna Suhaib, Sayyiduna Bilal, and Sayyiduna Ammar were present with him. These Quraysh said: “O Muhammad! Have you become content with these poor ones (and seated them in your gathering)?” Upon this, the following verse was revealed about them: {وَاَنْذِرْ بِہِ الَّذِیْنَیَخَافُوْنَ اَنْ یُحْشَرُوْا اِلٰی رَبِّہِمْ … اِلٰی قَوْلِہٖ … وَاللّٰہُاَعْلَمُبِالظَّالِمِیْنَ۔}
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the sight of Allah Ta’ala, lineage and ancestry, beauty and appearance, wealth and riches, and power and influence hold no significance; with Him, it is faith (iman) and righteous deeds (amal salih) that are important. If these are found among individuals of lesser status in society, such as Sayyiduna Khabbab and Sayyiduna Suhayb radi Allahu anhuma, then they alone will be the beloved ones of Allah.
These are the following eight verses from Surah al-An’am: {وَاَنْذِرْ بِہِ الَّذِیْنَیَخَافُوْنَ اَنْ یُّحْشَرُوْٓا اِلٰی رَبِّہِمْ لَیْسَ لَہُمْ مِّنْ دُوْنِہٖوَلِیٌّ وَّلَا شَفِیْعٌ لَّعَلَّہُمْ یَتَّقُوْنَ۔ وَلَا تَطْرُدِ الَّذِیْنَیَدْعُوْنَ رَبَّہُمْ بِالْغَدٰوۃِوَالْعَشِیِّیُرِیْدُوْنَ وَجْہَہٗمَاعَلَیْکَ مِنْ حِسَابِہِمْ مِّنْ شَیْء ٍ وَّمَا مِنْ حِسَابِکَ عَلَیْہِمْ مِّنْ شَیْء ٍ فَتَطْرُدَہُمْ فَتَکُوْنَ مِنَ الظّٰلِمِیْنَ۔ وَکَذٰلِکَ فَتَنَّا بَعْضَہُمْ بِبَعْضٍ لِّیَقُوْلُوْٓا اَہٰٓؤُلَائِ مَنَّ اللّٰہُ عَلَیْہِمْ مِّنْ بَیْنِنَا اَلَیْسَ اللّٰہُ بِاَعْلَمَ بِالشّٰکِرِیْنَ۔ وَاِذَا جَائَ کَ الَّذِیْنَیُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِاٰیٰتِنَا فَقُلْ سَلٰمٌ عَلَیْکُمْ کَتَبَ رَبُّکُمْ عَلٰی نَفْسِہِ الرَّحْمَۃَ اَنَّہٗمَنْعَمِلَمِنْکُمْسُوْئًابِجَہَالَۃٍ ثُمَّ تَابَ مِنْ بَعْدِہٖوَاَصْلَحَفَاَنَّہغَفُوْرٌرَّحِیْمٌ۔ وَکَذٰلِکَ نُفَصِّلُ الْاٰیٰتِ وَلِتَسْتَبِیْنَ سَبِیْلُ الْمُجْرِمِیْنَ۔ قُلْ اِنِّیْ نُہِیْتُ اَنْ اَعْبُدَ الَّذِیْنَ تَدْعُوْنَ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰہِ قُلْ لَّآ اَتَّبِعُ اَہْوَائَ کُمْ قَدْ ضَلَلْتُ اِذًا وَّمَآ اَنَا مِنَ الْمُہْتَدِیْنَ۔ قُلْ اِنِّیْ عَلٰی بَیِّنَۃٍ مِّنْ رَّبِّیْ وَکَذَّبْتُمْ بِہٖمَاعِنْدِیْ مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُوْنَ بِہٖ اِنِ الْحُکْمُ اِلَّا لِلّٰہِ یَقُصُّ الْحَقَّ وَہُوَ خَیْرُالْفٰصِلِیْنَ۔ قُلْ لَّوْ اَنَّ عِنْدِیْ مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُوْنَ بِہٖلَقُضِیَ الْاَمْرُ بَیْنِیْ وَبَیْنَکُمْ وَاللّٰہُ اَعْلَمُ بِالظّٰلِمِیْنَ۔} (al-An’am: 51–58)
And warn with it those who fear that they will be gathered to their Lord (after death); for them, besides Him, there will be no protector and no intercessor, so that they may become mindful. And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His Face; you are not accountable for anything of their reckoning, nor are they accountable for anything of your reckoning, that you should drive them away—if you do, then you would be among the wrongdoers. And thus We have tested some of them by means of others, so that they may say: “Are these the ones whom Allah has favored among us?” Does not Allah know best those who are grateful? And when those who believe in Our verses come to you, say: “Peace be upon you! Your Lord has prescribed mercy upon Himself: truly, whoever among you does evil in ignorance, then repents after that and reforms, then surely He is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” And thus We explain the verses in detail, so that the way of the criminals may become clear. Say: “Indeed, I am forbidden to worship those whom you call upon besides Allah.” Say: “I do not follow your desires, for then I would surely go astray and would not be among those who are guided.” Say: “Indeed, I am upon a clear proof from my Lord, and you have denied it. I do not possess that which you seek to hasten. The decision is for none but Allah; He declares the truth, and He is the best of judges.” Say: “If I had what you seek to hasten, the matter between me and you would have been decided, and Allah knows best the wrongdoers.”
