بَابُ: «وَكَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِيهَا أَنَّ النَّفْسَ بِالنَّفْسِ ۔۔۔ الخ»Chapter: "And We ordained for them therein: a life for a life...etc."

عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَرَأَهَا وَكَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِيهَا أَنَّ النَّفْسَ بِالنَّفْسِ وَالْعَيْنُ بِالْعَيْنِ [سورة المائدة: ٤٥] نَصَبَ النَّفْسَ وَرَفَعَ الْعَيْنَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited this verse: {وَکَتَبْنَا عَلَیْہِمْ فِیْہَا اَنَّ النَّفْسَ بِالنَّفْسِ وَالْعَیْنُ بِالْعَیْنِ} [المائدۃ: ۴۵] … We ordained for them: a life for a life, and an eye for an eye in retribution. He pronounced a zabar (fatḥa) on "nafs" and a pesh (ḍamma) on "al-‘ayn".

Benefits: … The mutawatir recitation is as follows: {وَکَتَبْنَا عَلَیْہِمْ فِیْہَآ اَنَّ النَّفْسَ بِالنَّفْسِ وَالْعَیْنَ بِالْعَیْنِ} The issues of retribution (qisas) have already been discussed in Hadith number (6545) and those that follow.
