عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُورَةُ الْمَائِدَةِ وَهُوَ رَاكِبٌ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ فَلَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ أَنْ تَحْمِلَهُ فَنَزَلَ عَنْهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Surah Al-Ma'idah was revealed to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he was mounted on his ride. The ride did not have enough strength to bear him in that state, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted from it.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … At the time of the descent of revelation, a burden would be placed upon the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. This matter is established from authentic ahadith. The statement of Allah the Exalted is: {اِنَّا سَنُلْقِیْ عَلَیْکَ قَوْلًا ثَـقِیْلًا} … “Indeed, We will surely send down to you a weighty word.” (Surah al-Muzzammil: 5)
