Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I fell ill, and I had seven sisters. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and sprinkled water on my face, and I regained consciousness. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Should I bequeath two-thirds of my wealth for my sisters? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do more. I said: Should I bequeath half of my wealth? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do more. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left me and then returned and said: O Jabir! I think you will not die from this illness. In any case, Allah Almighty has revealed the Qur’an and clarified the share of your sisters and has given them two-thirds. Sayyiduna Jabir used to say: This verse was revealed about me: {یَسْتَفْتُونَکَقُلِاللّٰہُیُفْتِیکُمْفِیالْکَلَالَۃِ}.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Apparently, there is a difficulty in the hadith that when it came to bequeathing two-thirds of the wealth, the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Do better, give more.” So Jabir said, “I will bequeath half.” It is evident that half is less than two-thirds, and similarly with the next statement. The answer given to this is that in “la khawati,” the “lam” is in the meaning of “ala” (upon), meaning: I will bequeath two-thirds, giving preference to the sisters and the needy, and the remainder I will give to the sisters. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Give more to the sisters.” Then, even after half, he said: “Give even more to the sisters.” Then, when the verse of inheritance was revealed, it became clear that more than one sister would receive two-thirds of the share.
