Mujahid says that Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! Men participate in jihad and we women do not participate in jihad, and our share of inheritance is also half that of men? So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: {وَلَاتَتَمَنَّوْامَافَضَّلَاللّٰہُبِہٖبَعْضَکُمْعَلٰیبَعْضٍلِلرِّجَالِنَصِیْبٌمِّمَّااکْتَـسَبُوْاوَلِلنِّسَاءِنَصِیْبٌمِّمَّااکْتَـسَبْنَوَسْـئَلُوااللّٰہَمِنْفَضْلِہٖاِنَّاللّٰہَکَانَبِکُلِّشَیْءٍعَلِـیْمًا} … And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you excel others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned. And ask Allah for His bounty. Surely, Allah is ever All-Knowing of everything.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … One should ask Allah Ta'ala for His bounty, and men and women should utilize the abilities with which they have been endowed. There is no need to desire those blessings and aptitudes which are purely a gift from Allah Ta'ala and have been granted without being asked for—for example, the superiority given to men as men, such as participation in jihad, testimony, share in inheritance, guardianship, authority, and responsibility. Similarly, the way a woman’s status is further reduced by afflicting her with conditions like menstruation (hayd) and postnatal bleeding (nifas). This is the division of Allah Ta'ala, and this alone is correct, so everyone should be content with it. In any case, the path to good and bad deeds is open; whoever wishes may advance.
