Hadith 8546

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that on the day of the Battle of Uhud, the front teeth of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, were broken and his blessed forehead was wounded, to the extent that blood flowed on his radiant face. At that time, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: How can a people succeed who have treated their Prophet in such a manner, while the Prophet was calling them towards their Lord? Then this verse was revealed: {لَیْسَ لَکَ مِنْ الْأَ مْرِ شَیْئٌ أَ وْ یَتُوبَ عَلَیْہِمْ أَ وْ یُعَذِّبَہُمْ فَإِنَّہُمْ ظَالِمُونَ} … You have no part in the matter, whether He turns to them in mercy or punishes them, for indeed they are wrongdoers.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In these two hadiths, separate incidents are described; first, the Battle of Uhud, and after that, the incident of Bi’r Ma‘unah occurred. However, in both, the revelation of the same verse is mentioned. Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has presented the reconciliation and harmonization in this way: when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam invoked curses against the mentioned people in prayer after the Battle of Uhud, this verse was revealed regarding both incidents. However, here it is more appropriate to present this principle of tafsir (Qur’anic exegesis): when the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) derive different rulings from a single verse, they use the word "fa-nazalat" (so it was revealed); this is the best approach.
