It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that a group of Jews came to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Abu al-Qasim! We want to ask you a few things, only a Prophet can answer them. Among the questions they asked was this: What food did Yaqub (Jacob), peace be upon him, make unlawful for himself before the night descended? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: I ask you in the name of Allah, Who revealed the Torah to Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, do you know that Yaqub, peace be upon him, became seriously ill, and his illness lasted a long time, so he vowed to Allah that if Allah cured him of this illness, he would make unlawful for himself the most beloved drink and the most beloved food? And his most beloved food was camel meat, and his most beloved drink was camel milk, so he made these things unlawful for himself. The Jews said: By Allah! This is correct.
