Fath al-Rabbani

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever swears a false oath in order to usurp the wealth of a Muslim, he will meet Allah while He is angry with him. Ash’ath bin Qais says: By Allah! This verse was revealed about me. There was a dispute over land between me and a Jew. He denied my claim and asserted that the land was his. I presented this case before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you have any evidence? I said: No. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Jew: Then you swear an oath. I said: O Messenger of Allah! He will take my property by swearing an oath. Then at that moment this verse was revealed: {اِنَّ الَّذِیْنَیَشْتَرُوْنَ بِعَہْدِ اللّٰہِ وَاَیْمَانِہِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِیْلًا اُولٰیِکَ لَا خَلَاقَ لَھُمْ فِی الْاٰخِرَۃِ وَلَا یُکَلِّمُھُمُ اللّٰہُ وَلَا یَنْظُرُ اِلَیْہِمْیَوْمَ الْقِیٰمَۃِ وَلَا یُزَکِّیْہِمْ وَلَھُمْ عَذَابٌ اَلِیْمٌ۔} … Indeed, those who exchange Allah’s covenant and their oaths for a small price, there will be no share for them in the Hereafter, and Allah will neither speak to them nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment. (Surah Aal-e-Imran: 77)
