. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when this verse was revealed to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) {لِلَّہِمَافِیالسَّمَوَاتِوَمَافِیالْأَرْضِوَإِنْتُبْدُوامَافِیأَنْفُسِکُمْأَوْتُخْفُوہُیُحَاسِبْکُمْبِہِاللّٰہُ،فَیَغْفِرُلِمَنْیَشَائُوَیُعَذِّبُمَنْیَشَائُوَاللّٰہُعَلَیکُلِّشَیْءٍقَدِیرٌ} … To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And whether you disclose what is in your hearts or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it. Then He will forgive whom He wills and punish whom He wills, and Allah is Powerful over everything. This verse was very hard on the Companions, so they came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), sat down on their knees, and said: O Messenger of Allah! In this verse, we have been made responsible for those deeds which we have the strength to do—prayer, fasting, jihad, charity (we can perform these deeds)—but now the verse that has been revealed to you, we do not have the strength for it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you want to say what the People of the Book before you said: “We heard and we disobeyed”? Rather, say: “We heard and we obeyed. O our Lord! We seek Your forgiveness and to You is the return.” The Companions said: “We heard and we obeyed. O our Lord! We seek Your forgiveness and to You is the return.” When the people acknowledged this and their tongues humbled themselves before this command, then after that Allah the Exalted said: {آمَنَالرَّسُولُبِمَاأُنْزِلَإِلَیْہِمِنْرَبِّہِوَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ،کُلٌّآمَنَبِاللّٰہِوَمَلَائِکَتِہِوَکُتُبِہِوَرُسُلِہِلَانُفَرِّقُبَیْنَأَحَدٍمِنْرُسُلِہِ} ‘Affan said: Abu Munzir Salam recited “yufarriqu,” {وَقَالُوْاسَمِعْنَاوَأَطَعْنَاغُفْرَانَکَرَبَّنَاوَإِلَیْکَالْمَصِیرُ} When the Companions did so, Allah the Exalted abrogated the command of this verse with this statement: {لَایُکَلِّفُاللّٰہُنَفْسًاإِلَّاوُسْعَہَالَہَامَاکَسَبَتْوَعَلَیْہَامَااکْتَسَبَتْ} For the soul is what it earns of good, and against it is what it commits of evil. { رَبَّنَالَاتُؤَاخِذْنَاإِنْنَسِینَاأَوْأَخْطَأْنَا} Allah the Exalted said: Yes {رَبَّنَاوَلَاتَحْمِلْعَلَیْنَاإِصْرًاکَمَاحَمَلْتَہُعَلَیالَّذِینَمِنْقَبْلِنَا} Allah the Exalted said: Yes {رَبَّنَاوَلَاتُحَمِّلْنَامَالَاطَاقَۃَلَنَابِہِ} Allah the Exalted said: Yes, {وَاعْفُعَنَّاوَاغْفِرْلَنَاوَارْحَمْنَاأَنْتَمَوْلَانَافَانْصُرْنَاعَلَیالْقَوْمِالْکَافِرِینَ۔}

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The noble Companions became extremely distressed at the beginning of this blessed hadith due to the verse mentioned, because they understood that there would be reckoning for all the thoughts and whispers that arise in the heart, since Allah the Exalted said: And whether you disclose what is in your hearts or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it. But the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam instructed them simply to submit, and Allah the Exalted would create a way out. In {آمَنَالرَّسُولُ}, the Messenger refers to Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. In {لَانُفَرِّقُبَیْنَأَحَدٍمِنْرُسُلِہٖ}, this is the distinction of the Ummah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam: it has affirmed the prophethood and messengership of all the Prophets and Messengers; the attitude of this Ummah is not like that of the Jews and Christians, who believed in some and disbelieved in others. The last two complete verses and their translation are as follows: {اٰمَنَالرَّسُوْلُبِمَآاُنْزِلَاِلَیْہِمِنْرَّبِّہٖوَالْمُؤْمِنُوْنَکُلٌّاٰمَنَبِاللّٰہِوَمَلٰیِکَتِہٖوَکُتُبِہٖوَرُسُلِہٖلَانُفَرِّقُبَیْنَاَحَدٍمِّنْرُّسُلِہٖوَقَالُوْاسَمِعْنَاوَاَطَعْنَاغُفْرَانَکَرَبَّنَاوَاِلَیْکَالْمَصِیْرُ۔لَایُکَلِّفُاللّٰہُنَفْسًااِلَّاوُسْعَہَالَہَامَاکَسَبَتْوَعَلَیْہَامَااکْتَسَبَتْرَبَّنَالَاتُؤَاخِذْنَآاِنْنَّسِیْنَآاَوْاَخْطَاْنَارَبَّنَاوَلَاتَحْمِلْعَلَیْنَآاِصْرًاکَمَاحَمَلْتَہعَلَیالَّذِیْنَمِنْقَبْلِنَارَبَّنَاوَلَاتُحَمِّلْنَامَالَاطَاقَۃَلَنَابِہٖوَاعْفُعَنَّاوَاغْفِرْلَنَاوَارْحَمْنَااَنْتَمَوْلٰینَافَانْصُرْنَاعَلَیالْقَوْمِالْکٰفِرِیْنَ۔} … The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they said, “We hear and we obey. [Grant us] Your forgiveness, our Lord. To You is the [final] destination.” Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. “Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
