عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ الطَّائِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ الْمَغْضُوبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْيَهُودُ وَإِنَّ الضَّالِّينَ النَّصَارَى
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Those who incurred wrath are the Jews, and those who went astray are the Christians.”
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The Jews are those who recognized the truth but did not act upon it, thus they became deserving of Allah’s wrath. And the Christians are those who, due to ignorance, deviated from the path of truth. Ibn Abi Hatim said: There is no difference among the commentators that by {الْمَغْضُوْبِ عَلَیْھِمْ} is meant the Jews, and by {الضَّالِّیْنَ} is meant the Christians.
Therefore, it is necessary for those who desire the straight path to safeguard themselves from the misguidances of both the Jews and the Christians.
