Hadith 8469

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a similar but longer hadith, in which it is mentioned: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite: "I seek refuge with Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Satan, from his whispering, his arrogance, and his poetry."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut’im radi Allahu anhu asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by his hamz, nafth, and nafkh? He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied: Hamz refers to madness and insanity, which befalls the son of Adam; then he described the state of this madness, in which a person falls unconscious. Nafkh refers to arrogance, and nafth refers to poetry. See Hadith number (1553). Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id al-Khudri radi Allahu anhu narrated a similar but longer hadith, in which it is mentioned: Then he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would recite: “I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Shaytan, from his hamz, his nafkh, and his nafth.”
