Hadith 8455

Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The verse of stoning and the verse establishing fosterage by ten sucklings for an adult man were written on a paper and kept under my bed in my house. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill and we became occupied with him, an animal entered and ate that paper.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Regarding suckling (rada‘ah), the following hadith is narrated from Sayyidah A’ishah radi Allahu anha: Sayyidah A’ishah radi Allahu anha says: “Among what was revealed in the Qur’an was that ten known sucklings (rada‘at) make (marriage) unlawful, then it was abrogated by five known (sucklings), and the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam passed away while it was still being recited as part of the Qur’an.” … What was revealed in the Qur’an regarding this was that ten specified sucklings would make (marriage) unlawful, then this was abrogated by five sucklings, and when the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam passed away, it was still being recited in the Qur’an. (Sahih Muslim: 2634)

Now, the ruling of suckling (rada‘ah) will only be established by five instances of suckling; however, the recitation of these words has been abrogated.
