It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that Jibreel (peace be upon him) used to present the Noble Qur’an to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, every year. But in the year in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed away, he presented it twice.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Some verses had been abrogated, but Sayyiduna Ubayy ibn Ka'b radi Allahu anhu did not accept their abrogation. It is possible that the hadiths indicating abrogation did not reach him. Then Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu also presented a verse in his favor, showing that some parts of the Noble Qur'an can be abrogated. The following are the forms of abrogation (naskh) in the Noble Qur'an:
(1). The recitation (qira’ah) is abrogated, but the ruling remains, such as: "Al-shaykhu wa al-shaykhatu idha zanaya farjumuhuma al-battata nakalan min Allah, wa Allahu 'azizun hakim." (When the old man and the old woman, i.e., the married man and woman, commit adultery, then stone them both as a definite punishment from Allah, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.)
(2). The recitation remains, but the ruling is abrogated, such as {وَعَلَیالَّذِینَیُطِیقُونَہُفِدْیَۃٌطَعَامُمِسْکِینٍ} (And upon those who are able [to fast], a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person.)
(3). Both the recitation and the ruling are abrogated, such as: "‘Ashru rada‘atin ma‘lumatin yuharrimna" (Ten known sucklings make [marriage] unlawful.)
Previously, the prohibition of suckling (radā‘ah) was established by ten sucklings, then this was abrogated and replaced with five sucklings. (Muslim: 1452)
