عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ لِي اقْرَأْ عَلَيَّ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَلَيْسَ مِنْكَ تَعَلَّمْتُهُ وَأَنْتَ تُقْرِئُنَا فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ اقْرَأْ عَلَيَّ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ أُنْزِلَ وَمِنْكَ تَعَلَّمْنَاهُ قَالَ بَلَى وَلَكِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَسْمَعُهُ مِنْ غَيْرِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: They said to me: Recite the Holy Qur'an to me. I said: Did I not learn the Holy Qur'an from you and did you not teach us? They said: One day I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Recite the Holy Qur'an to me. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Was it not revealed to you and did we not learn from you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, of course, but I like to hear it from others.
