عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ شُرَيْحًا الْحَضْرَمِيَّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ ذَاكَ رَجُلٌ لَا يَتَوَسَّدُ الْقُرْآنَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Saib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) that Shuraih Hadhrami was mentioned in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He is a person who does not make the Qur'an a pillow.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From these words of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, both praise and censure can be derived. In the case of praise, the meaning would be that by not making it a pillow, it is implied that he performs the night prayer (tahajjud). In the case of censure, the meaning would be that neither does he have the Noble Qur’an memorized, nor does he maintain constancy in its recitation; that is, when he sleeps, the Noble Qur’an is not with him.
