Hadith 8325

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: If the Noble Qur'an is placed in leather and then thrown into the fire, it will not burn.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah said: Manawi, in Faydh al-Qadir, engaged in a lengthy and fruitless discussion to clarify the meaning of this hadith. The apparent meaning is exactly as intended by hadith scholars like Imam Bayhaqi. He, in Shu‘ab al-Iman, quoting Abu ‘Abd Allah Bushanji, says: “That is, whoever memorized the Qur’an and continued to recite it, the Fire will not touch him.” Whoever memorized the Noble Qur’an and then continued to recite it, the Fire of Hell will not touch him.

Imam Ahmad said, as quoted in al-Asma’: “And among that which there is no doubt about: the intended meaning is the bearer of the Qur’an, its memorizer, and its reciter for the sake of Allah, Blessed and Exalted, not seeking any reward or gratitude for it except from Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Otherwise, he will be as Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman said.” And he is ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri’, as is in Musnad Abi Ya‘la: “Its explanation: whoever gathered (i.e., memorized) the Qur’an and then entered the Fire, he is worse than a pig.” … Without any doubt, the intended meaning of this hadith is that the memorizer of the Noble Qur’an, who recites it seeking the pleasure of Allah Most High and hopes for reward and appreciation only from Allah Most High, the Fire of Hell will not touch him. Otherwise, he will become the subject of the statement of Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri’, which is in Musnad Abi Ya‘la: that whoever memorized the Noble Qur’an and then entered Hell, he is even worse than a pig.
