عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا عَطَسَ وَضَعَ ثَوْبَهُ أَوْ يَدَهُ عَلَى جَبْهَتِهِ وَخَفَضَ أَوْ غَضَّ مِنْ صَوْتِهِ
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sneezed, he would place his garment or his hand on his forehead and would lower his voice.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The wording of the narration in Abu Dawud is more meaningful and clear. The words are as follows: "Whenever the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sneezed, he would place his hand or his garment over his mouth and would lower or suppress his voice with it." … When the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sneezed, he would place his hand or a piece of cloth over his mouth and, through it, would lower his voice.
