Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ate food, then the iqamah for prayer was given and he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, although he (peace and blessings be upon him) had already performed ablution before that meal. I then brought water (thinking that) he (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform ablution again, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked me and said: Move back. By Allah! This was very hard on me. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer. I presented my complaint before Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) (that this happened to me today). Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Your rebuking of Mughirah was very hard on him, and he fears that you may have something in your heart about him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is nothing in my heart about him except good. The real matter is that he brought water for my ablution, whereas I had only eaten food. Now, if I had performed ablution, then people after me would have also considered it necessary.
