Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never applied dye. There were only a few white hairs in the front part of his blessed beard, in the small beard, and at the temples, so few that even seeing them was difficult. However, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dye with henna.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Regarding whether the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam applied henna (mehndi) and katam, or not, both types of narrations have been mentioned above. The affirmative is given precedence over the negative, meaning that the statement of those Companions radi Allahu anhum who said that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not apply henna, etc., will be attributed to the extent of their knowledge—that is, they were not aware of him dyeing (his hair). In any case, the summary of these narrations is that both dyeing and not dyeing are established from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
