Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Jews and Christians do not dye their hair, so you should oppose them." Imam Zuhri said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the use of dye, and the color I like most is deep black." Imam Zuhri himself used to apply black dye.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From these ahadith it is understood that the real reason and cause for dyeing the hair of the head and beard is to oppose the Jews and Christians, while the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to be extremely diligent in opposing the People of the Book. On the basis of this reason and cause, dyeing the hair is recommended (mustahabb) and emphasized (mu’akkad).
