(Second chain) Masruq narrates that a woman came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I have been informed that you prohibit the one who joins hair? He said: Yes, I do prohibit! She said: Do you find this in the Book of Allah, or did you hear it from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: I find it in the Book of Allah and I have also heard it from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The woman said: By Allah! I have carefully read the entire Qur'an from beginning to end, but I did not find this in it. He said: Have you not read this verse: {مَاآتَاکُمُالرَّسُولُفَخُذُوہُوَمَانَہَاکُمْعَنْہُفَانْتَہُوا} ... So take what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) gives you and refrain from what he forbids you? She said: Yes, I have read it. At the end of this hadith, it is mentioned: If I prohibit something and then do it myself, then I have not remembered the advice of Allah's righteous servant (Sayyiduna Shu'ayb, peace be upon him), who said (as Allah Almighty said): {وَمَاأُرِیدُأَنْأُخَالِفَکُمْإِلٰیمَاأَنْہَاکُمْعَنْہُ} ... It is not my intention to do contrary to that which I forbid you from.
