Sayyiduna Safina (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man hosted Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). He prepared food for him. Sayyida Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) said: If we also invite the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he eats with us, (it would be better). So they sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he came. He was still at the threshold of the door when he saw a curtain hanging in the corner of the house. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw that curtain, he turned back. Sayyida Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): Follow the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him why he is returning. So he followed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Why are you returning? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not appropriate for me or for a Prophet to enter a house decorated in such a manner.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is permissible to put up a curtain as needed; the fundamental reason is that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam wished to keep his family steadfast upon simplicity, and his intention was that they remain distant from worldly adornment and embellishment.
