Hadith 8035

It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a garment with silk stripes being sold near the door of the mosque, so he said: O Messenger of Allah! If you would buy it and wear it on Fridays and at the time of meeting various delegations. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Only he can wear this who has no share in the Hereafter. Then some silk garments were brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave one of those garments to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), but Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! You are giving this to me, while you have expressed dislike for it? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have not given it to you so that you may wear it; I have given it so that you may sell it or give it to someone (for whom it is not prohibited). So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave it to his polytheist brother by fosterage who lived in Makkah. Sayyiduna Salim says: Because of this hadith, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) considered it disliked to wear garments made of striped silk.
