Hadith 7988

عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أَجْعَلَ خَاتَمِي فِي هَذِهِ السَّبَّابَةِ أَوِ الَّتِي تَلِيهَا
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me from wearing a ring on the index finger or the one next to it, that is, the middle finger.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In this hadith, men are prohibited from wearing a ring on two fingers. Imam Nawawi said: There is consensus (ijma‘) among the Muslims that (for men) wearing a ring on the little finger is Sunnah, whereas a woman may wear a ring on any of her fingers.
