It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a gold ring on one of his companions and turned away from him because of it. He threw it away and made a ring of iron. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about it: "This is even worse than that; this is the adornment of the people of Hell." He took that off as well and had a ring made of silver. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent.
