Syedna Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man from the delegation of Najran came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was wearing a gold ring. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face away from him and did not pay any attention to him. That man went to his wife and told her about this treatment. She said: Something must have happened, you should return to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He went back, having removed his ring and cloak, and now sought permission from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him permission. He greeted the Prophet, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to his greeting. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Earlier I had come to you, but you turned away from me. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you came at that time, there was a burning ember in your hand. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Then I have brought many more embers, for he had brought jewelry from Bahrain. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whatever you have brought is of no use to us; it is only as beneficial as the stones of Harrah. It is merely a provision of worldly life. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Please explain my excuse to your companions, lest they think that you were angry with me for some reason. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and explained the man’s excuse, that whatever was done to him was because of his gold ring.
