Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila says: I went with Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) towards a certain land. He asked for water to drink. A farmer brought him water in a silver vessel. Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) struck the vessel at his mouth. We said: Remain silent, remain silent. Now, if we ask him anything about this, he will not tell us anything. We remained silent. After a while, he himself said: Do you know why I threw this vessel at his face? We said: No. He said: I had already forbidden him before that drinking water in a silver vessel is prohibited, and he narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not drink from gold vessels. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not drink from gold and silver vessels, do not wear silk and brocade; these things are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter.
