Hadith 7949

Abu Zubair says: I asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) about red silk cushions. He said that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I neither ride using such cushions, nor do I wear a shirt whose edges are of silk, nor will I wear silk clothing.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … We have translated "al-urjuwan" as "red"; in reality, this word is an Arabized form of "arghawan." It is a red-colored flower. Referring to cushions as "arghawan" means likening them in color, i.e., red-colored cushions. It has already been mentioned that the reason for prohibiting "maitharah" (cushion) was the silk that was used in its making.
