عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ لَعِبَ بِالنَّرْدِ وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ بِالْكِعَابِ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever played with backgammon, and in another narration: Whoever played with the pieces of the backgammon game, has disobeyed Allah Almighty and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... The translation of نَرْد (nard) is given as لُعْبَۃ الطَّاوِلَۃ (the game of the board), that is, a game played on a wooden board, by which games such as chess, carrom board, and ludo, etc., can be understood.
