Hadith 7887

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever swears an oath and in his oath says, "By al-Lat," then he should say (to atone for this mistake): "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah), and whoever says to his companion, "Come, let us gamble," he should give some charity.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Some words would flow from the tongues of the Arabs unintentionally; even in the early days of Islam, such things would happen that prohibited words would come upon their tongues. The oaths by Lat and Uzza are also among such words, or it refers to the person who, out of ignorance or forgetfulness, swears by Lat or Uzza. Otherwise, the person who knowingly and deliberately, out of reverence, swears by Lat or others like it, is a disbeliever (kafir); there is no difference of opinion among anyone regarding his disbelief—he will be outside the fold of Islam.
