It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I used to see such dreams that, out of fear, I would get a fever and could not even cover myself with a sheet. (In another narration: I used to see such dreams that would make me ill.) One day I met Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned this to him. He narrated this hadith to me: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A good dream is from Allah Almighty, and bad dreams are from Satan. When any of you sees a dream that he dislikes, he should not inform anyone about it, and he should spit three times to his left and seek refuge in Allah Almighty from its evil. (It should be kept in mind that) this dream will not harm him. Sufyan, the narrator, narrated once in this way: He will not see anything disliked. In another narration: When any of you sees a pleasant dream, he should narrate it only to the one whom he loves.
