عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا فَبَرِحَ ظَبْيٌ فَمَالَ فِي شِقِّهِ فَاحْتَضَنْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَطَيَّرْتَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا الطِّيَرَةُ مَا أَمْضَاكَ أَوْ رَدَّكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: One day I went out with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when suddenly a deer appeared and it turned to the left side. I clung to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Have you taken it as a bad omen? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A bad omen is that which prompts one to act or turns one back from doing something.
