Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amir narrates that Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi’ah and Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunaif (may Allah be pleased with them both) both wanted to bathe, so they both went out in search of some cover. Sayyiduna Sahl took off his woolen cloak. Sayyiduna Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When I saw him, the evil eye from me affected him. When he entered the water to bathe, I heard the sound of him thrashing in the water. I came to him and called out to him three times, but he did not respond. I informed the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came walking and entered the water. It is as if I can still see the whiteness of his shins. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck his hand on the chest of Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: “O Allah! Remove from him its heat, its cold, and its fatigue.” After this, Sahl stood up. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “When any of you sees something pleasing in his brother, or in himself, or in his wealth, let him pray for blessing for it, for the evil eye is indeed a reality.”
