Hadith 771

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the noble Companions used to sleep and then would not perform a new ablution.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The wording of the narration in Musnad al-Bazzar (2/334) is as follows: "Indeed, the companions of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to lie down on their sides, then among them were those who would perform ablution (wudu) and among them were those who would not perform ablution." … The companions of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to sleep on their sides, then (when performing prayer) some would perform ablution and some would not. From this narration, it is understood that it is not correct to differentiate between sleeping while sitting and sleeping while lying down in this regard, that the ablution of the one who sits remains valid while the ablution of the one who lies down is invalidated.
