عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَاذَا كُنْتِ تَسْتَشْفِينَ قَالَتْ بِالشُّبْرُمِ قَالَ حَارٌّ جَارٌّ ثُمَّ اسْتَشْفَيْتُ بِالسَّنَا قَالَ لَوْ كَانَ شَيْءٌ يَشْفِي مِنَ الْمَوْتِ كَانَ السَّنَا أَوِ السَّنَا شِفَاءٌ مِنَ الْمَوْتِ
Lady Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: With what do you take a laxative? I said: With the shrub Shabram. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That is hot and a strong purgative. Then I took a laxative with the Sana herb. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding it: If there were anything that could cure death, it would be this Sana makki.

Benefits: … Sayyiduna Abu Ubay bin Umm Haram radi Allahu anhu says that I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “Adhere to senna and sannut, for indeed in them there is a cure for every disease except as-sam.” It was asked: O Messenger of Allah, what is as-sam? He said: “Death.” … You must regularly use senna and honey, for in them is a cure for every disease except sam. It was asked what is the meaning of sam? He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied: Death. (Ibn Majah: 3457, Sahihah: 1798)
