Hadith 7668

Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever gets cauterized or has ruqyah done has absolved himself of reliance (tawakkul).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... Utilizing permissible means of treatment and remedy is not contrary to reliance (tawakkul) upon Allah, and cauterization and seeking ruqyah (spiritual healing) are among the permissible means of treatment. In reality, this hadith is describing the highest level of tawakkul, in which a person afflicted with an illness is content with Allah’s decree, exercises patience, and says that the One who has caused the illness is also fully capable of removing it. As the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Seventy thousand (people) of my ummah will enter Paradise without reckoning; they are those who do not cauterize themselves, nor seek ruqyah, nor take omens, and upon their Lord they rely.” That is, seventy thousand people from my ummah will enter Paradise without reckoning; their qualities are that they do not cauterize their bodies, nor seek ruqyah, nor take bad omens from anything, and they place their trust solely in their Lord.
