The wife of the Messenger, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates that the slave woman of the Messenger of Allah or the wife of the slave of the Messenger of Allah, Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyida Salma, came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to complain about her husband, as he had beaten her. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him): "Abu Rafi’! What is the matter between you and her?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! She causes me distress." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Salma! What distress did you cause him?" She said: "O Messenger of Allah! I did not cause him any distress, except that during prayer his ablution broke, so I said to him: 'O Abu Rafi’! Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has commanded the Muslims that when anyone passes wind, he should perform ablution.' But as soon as I said this, he got up and started beating me." Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to smile and said: "Abu Rafi’! She only commanded you to do good."
