Hadith 7615

عَنْ أَبِي الْعُشَرَاءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمَا تَكُونُ الذَّكَاةُ إِلَّا فِي الْحَلْقِ أَوِ اللَّبَّةِ قَالَ لَوْ طَعَنْتَ فِي فَخِذِهَا لَأَجْزَأَكَ
It is narrated from the father of Abu Ashra, he says: I said, O Messenger of Allah! Is the animal to be slaughtered only at the pit of the neck? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you strike its thigh with a spear, that will also suffice.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This narration is weak, but the juristic issue is certainly established that, as far as possible, the animal should be slaughtered at the neck. However, if this becomes impossible—for example, if the animal panics, or it is clearly near death but its neck cannot be reached—then any other possible method may be used, such as shooting an arrow, firing a gun, or striking with a sword.
