It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about hunting with a dog. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you send your trained dog and recite Bismillah, and the dog catches the prey, if you find it while it is still alive, then slaughter it. And if the dog has killed the prey, then also you may eat it. But if the dog has eaten from the prey itself, then do not eat it, because in that case it means the dog has kept it for itself.
