Hadith 7565

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: O people! I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should never sit at a table where wine is being passed around, and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not enter the bathhouse without a lower garment, and any woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day should not enter the bathhouse at all.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The bathhouses (hammams) mentioned in this hadith refer to the large bathhouses of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), where multiple different people would bathe together naked. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam permitted men to bathe in such bathhouses if they wore a waist-wrapper (izar), and he absolutely prohibited women from entering them. As for the bathrooms constructed in our homes, it is permissible to bathe naked in them, provided that only one individual is present; however, a husband and wife may bathe together. For further details, see the chapter under hadith number (922).
